New Cameras

Exciting news as Canon breaks the 21 megapixel barrier. Last week, Canon announced their new 1Ds Mark III which will undoubtedly take digital photography to new heights. We've been using the 17 megapixel 1Ds Mark II for two years now and it has been an amazing workhorse for us, so we are excited to get our hands on the new one.

Can a camera make you a better photographer? Well, I believe it is all about the eye of the artist, but the latest breakthroughs in digital technology are making me re-think the possibilities. The new cameras can work in low light much better than film ever could in regards to detail at high ISO's. This means a photographer using this system can photograph differently than the options of the past. So, we'll be seeing some new image styles appear over the next six months I am sure.

The long debate of Canon vs. Nikon seems to be over with this announcement. Nikon just introduced their new flagship system which only pushes 12 megapixels. It will be interesting to see if they will ever catch up. Although I have to say that the new Nikon is a gorgeous looking camera and 12 megapixels is more than ample for wedding and most portrait photography.

It's been a great weekend. We had the weekend off and it was nice to feel like a normal person for a couple of days. In the thick of wedding season, we work weekends and midweek, so having a weekend is a welcomed change.

Engagement Sessions

We are preparing for an exciting wedding today in Manhattan at St. Regis. Today it is absolutely gorgeous out. There is a chill in the air and it almost feels fall in the middle of August. This couple definitely got one of the best days of the year.

Yesterday we had two engagement sessions. One in the middle of the day in Riverside Park in which the couple brought their dogs. It was such a fun shoot as the dogs really added a nice touch. I always love when we can incorporate other elements of our lives in photographs. The second session was in the Meat Packing District. There were thunderstorms on and off the whole time which made it pretty interesting. The light was falling fast, but the color of light was stunning as cars turned their lights on and day become night.

We ended the day with Dave and Eda, good friends of ours that are getting married soon with a great dinner at One Little West. As you can see there are a few images here from the sessions. Hope you all enjoy...

New Books / Racing Again

We've been in NYC for the past two days working on post production and meeting with clients, and back to CT today for a wedding tomorrow which is right down the street from our home, which will be great.

We are excited to share our new opus. We have created two new looks and are working on a third. My friend John Garner is a world class bookmaker in Australia. I sent him one of them to bind already as he is the only person I have found who can bind on this level. These new books are true works of art which are delicate. The images took a week to print and organize. It is tedious craftsmanship printing giclee images that will be bound book style. After printing, we have to heat the images up in a vacuum sealed press one at a time to make sure the inks dry completely in order to bind them the way we are having it done. We are excited to have new books that are exclusive to our studio and to have reinvented the wedding album once again.

On a personal note, I've spent a great deal of time training on my road bike the past month and started racing again two weeks ago. I have to say, the pace has been stepped up a bit. Looking down at my bike computer we were pushing 29 MPH at points. I hooked up the Stage 1/Cannondale team that I used to ride with and am back on the team which is great as they will motivate me back into shape. Needless to say, I am hooked.
